The newly formed amateur national selections of Austria and Slovenia met for the first time on Sunday 26th November afternoon in the Sportpark Klagenfurt as part of a friendly international match. The match was eagerly awaited, as it marked the rebirth of amateur national teams after 44 years. In the end, the Austrians won 1-0.

First Slovenia was better

There was an injury break in the second minute when Tomi Gobec from Slovenia was hit by his own teammate. Luckily, after a short break from treatment, he can resume playing straight away. In the eighth minute, the first shot of the game was fired by Matic Zavnik for Slovenia. However, the attempt outside the penalty area can be safely intercepted by goalkeeper Felix Wimmer from Union Gurten in the left corner.

In the eleventh minute, the Slovenians started better again: Tomi Gobec plays a nice pass to Žiga Čakš, who, however, just misses the ball from the left position. Austria made its first offensive move in the 19th minute, but to no avail when a cross from Florian Krutzler from the right half of the field reached no one. The best chance in the first half came in the 31st minute, when a long-range shot from Daniel Fischer became dangerous. The Slovenian goalkeeper Jure Ribič only blocks the ball forward, so that there is a press ball between an Austrian and the goalkeeper. In the end, however, Slovenia manages to clear the ball.

In the meantime, the Austrians are better in the game and get closer to the opponent's goal several times, but it was not enough to score a goal. The first half ends with one chance for both sides. Slovenia's Anej Kmetic, who is under contract with ASK Klagenfurt, shoots from around 14 meters on the turn, but the ball goes over the goal. At the other end, the Austrians try a low shot from the right side by Thomas Herrklotz, but the goalkeeper is able to intercept the ball.

Austria with a lightning start

The second half begins with a lightning start from the Austrians. Great long ball to Herrklotz and the Oberwarter takes a half-volley into the penalty area - the ball fits precisely into the left corner. In return, the guests have a huge chance to equalize - substitute Deen Adrovič finishes on the 16 without any pressure, but puts his attempt just to the right of the box. As a result, both teams make substitutions (seven players can be replaced) to bring new momentum into the game. In the 56th minute, Austria almost made it 2-0 - Jan-Niklas Ostermann from SC Weiz shot from a central position on the edge of the penalty area and his attempt went just over to the right. In the final phase the game flattens out a bit. Slovenia is trying hard and risks more, while Austria is lurking on the counterattack. But both the hosts and the guests no longer really have any options. Then the Slovenians throw everything forward, but the Austrians still have a narrow success.
