After the successful Revival and Kick-off Match after a break of over 40 years in Klagenfurt in November 2023, the return match between the National Amateur Selections of Slovenia and Austria will take place on April 2nd in Slovenia.
In the first Revival and Kick-Off Match after a break of over 40 years for an International Match between Amateur Nationalteams, Austria's Amateur Selection defeated Slovenia 1-0. Now there will be the second leg in Slovenia on April 2nd.
And the second leg, like in November 2023 in the Klagenfurt Wörthersee Stadium, will also have a small footnote in sports and football history, as for the first time in the young nation of Slovenia an Amateur Natioanlteam Match will take place on home soil. The match will be played at the traditional Siska Stadium in Ljubljana, Slovenia, starting at 17:30.
Personnel changes in both teams
Austria's Head Coach Albert Parth of the first leg in Klagenfurt in November 2023 will be out for health reasons. He will be replaced by Kurt Stuck, a long-time and former Carinthian Amateur Coach in the regional and state league at VST Völkermarkt. Also not there is Austria's captain of the first leg and defense chief Thomas Reiter from Union Gurten, who is out due to injury. In addition, the newly formed Austrian coaching trio also wants to get an idea of the new players who were not in the squad in the first match. The situation is similar for the Slovenians, who this time can access players who were not possible in the first match due to a cup round in November.
INTERREG FOOTBALL UNION (IFU) founded and statutes sharpened
After the successful Revival Kick-Off Match in November 2023 and consistently positive response and feedback nationally and internationally from players, coaches, supervisors, football clubs, involved football associations, politics, media, business and tourism, the initiators worked tirelessly on it during the winter months to professionalize the project and the initiative “AMATEURE NATIONAL TEAMS BACK TO/ON STAGE”.
The Interregional Association IFU (Interreg Football Union) was founded as an organizing and responsible Association. The association includes Official and Licensed FIFA Match Agents, Football Agents and Football Experts from the three countries of Austria, Italy and Slovenia, where many cross-border football activities in the Amateur, Youth and Professional sectors have been carried out and organized in the past. The statute and regulations governing eligibility to play and participate for active Players and Coaches have also been adapted and defined as best as possible with the generally applicable FIFA match regulations.
Warm up for the AMATEURES EUROFED CUP 2024
The second international friendly match between the Amateur Selections of Austria and Slovenia is also a further Warm-up and a test gallop for the planned AMATEUR EUROFED CUP 2024™ which will take place from June 27th to June 30th, 2024 with four, six or eight amateur selections from the countries and Nations of the Alps-Adriatic region is to take place for the first time. The first AMATEURE EURO 2025™ will take place in 2025 or 2026 with 32 participating amateur selections in Europe.
